Houdini.School Basic Membership

HS-001: Free Quickstart

Students will complete this class being familiarized and comfortable with navigating the Houdini user interface. They will also have a basic understanding of setting up a scene and creating a render.

HS-243: Data Visualization

Students will develop the skills to create engaging visualizations, mastering the technical and artistic aspects of data representation.

HS-240: Optimized Workflows

This course provides an overview of common workflow techniques and optimizations for everyday Houdini use. The goal is to reduce downtime while working.

HS-119: Intro to Karma

Students will be able to create custom materials, lighting setups, and LOP Networks that can be saved and re-used in a flash. They will have acquired a solid foundation of the Karma rendering workflow and feel comfortable in the Solaris context.

HS-204: Forces: Building Custom Velocity Setups

Students should leave with a better understanding of how to begin building and implementing their own velocity flows for art directing simulations.

HS-234: Mastering Constraints

Students will leave this course with a competent understanding of how constraints are used to gain the desired outcomes within their simulations.

HS-232: BUILD YOUR BRAIN – Cell Division in Houdini

Upon completion you will have a good understanding of how to tackle a complex shot in Houdini, combining various simulation and SOP-based techniques to mix it all together, as well as rendering a scene in Solaris using Redshift or Karma.

HS-231: Loops

At the end of this course, you should walk away with a more clear understanding of which loops to use for your build task needs, as well as how to set up the nodes properly to keep your workflow efficient and functional.

HS-230: Effective TD

Students will leave this class with a peek into the world of an effective TD in the industry, and the importance of data management and optimization of systems to effectively ensure the lowest footprint on disk.

HS-229: Variants

Students will leave this class with a better understanding of the underlying fundamentals of instancing, simple and easy techniques for speeding up the workflow, and creating and managing simple but effective HDAs in Houdini.

HS-118: Attributes

Students should leave with a clearer understanding of how to build attributes, troubleshoot common issues, extract the data needed for project builds, Geometry spreadsheets, as well as intrinsics.

HS-227: Visualizing Protein Data Bank Information

HS-117: Natural Morphologies (Heightfields)

Students will leave this class with a fundamental and broad understanding of how they can generate realistic landscapes and terrains and have a deeper understanding of erosion and how it is simulated inside Heightfields.

HS-226: MOPs: Motion Operators for Houdini

Students will understand how to leverage MOPs to create motion graphics and visual effects, and gain some insight into the concepts behind both motion graphics in Houdini and the underlying math behind motion graphics.

HS-225: Procedural Growth with KineFX and the Labs Tree Tools

Students will come away with the knowledge needed to build, rig, animate, and render fully procedural trees in SOPs using KineFX and the Labs Tree Tools.

HS-224: Liquid SOPs

Students should leave this class with a new perspective on how to approach building liquid FX in more art directable ways, and discover new approaches in breaking down FX tasks into smaller manageable chunks.

At the end of this course, you should be able to direct cloth using the right node for the effect you want.

HS-219: Problem-Space

Learning about working in problem-space and posing otherwise difficult or complex problems into a more intuitive geometric space, making it easier to visualize, solve, and control.

HS-217: Noise

At the end of this course, you should have a better understanding of how to create more visually interesting noises in VOPs and VEX.

HS-216: Alien Life Forms (Awaken)

Students will leave this class with a range of new techniques for designing, modeling, and rendering alien life forms in a realistic manner.

HS-114: From C4D to Houdini

You’ll come away from this class being able to confidently manage and manipulate geometry in Houdini. You’ll know the Houdini equivalent of C4D’s deformers and be able to create procedural motion graphics setups.

HS-116: Working with Scientific Datasets in Houdini

Students will leave with a fundamental understanding of how to incorporate real scientific data into their Houdini scenes, and with Python starter code for accomplishing a few common data transformation tasks.
